Height is the first filter
Iowa State University Extension’s natural resources guidance says a passive deer fence must be at least 8 feet tall and provide a barrier to the ground so deer cannot duck under it. Mississippi State Extension adds that deer can jump more than ten feet but usually will not attempt eight.
